So my elven wizard was kidnapped by a hag as an infant along with other children and the hag would produce challenges such as leaving them in dangerous places of the forests, pop quizzes, practicing magic, and to fight one another... those who failed would be dragged to the cellar never to be heard from again. Years later he would have started to make escape attempts in which the hag would play cat and mouse allowing him to almost escape before she ultimately caught him only for him to continue living in that cottage deep in the forests.
(I plan to flesh this part out more)
Then one day he finally "escapes" only to realize the skin on his shoulder started to turn grey and would crack like dry mud, the grey patch would spread up to his left eye turning it milky white and down to his finger tips of his left hand as the voices of all the children that failed the challenges screamed inside his head nonstop forcing him to self medicate.
I plan for him to be distant emotionally from others, insecure about his own capabilities and the suffering he may cause others, to be slightly paranoid of the hag coming for him, to be sleep deprived with bags under his eye, and to look slightly malnourished pale and frail in appearance.
(P.s. The DM is super excited to use this stuff for plot because he loves hags and enjoys darker themed things! My character was inspired by Caleb Widowgast, Hansel and Gretal, and the game of thrones grey scale disease appearance.)
His flaw could be madness. The voices pressure him to do stuff, and he occasionally just goes insane for a moment. For an ideal, he could have safety. This could tie into the flaw, with his occasional madness causing him to do things to keep people "safe" to the detriment of those around him. For a bond, he could have a fascination with the town that he was kidnapped from. Maybe there could be some strange occurances there every few weeks or months.
Homebrew, homebrew, homebrew. I DM homebrew. I homebrew homebrew. My homebrew brews homebrew. I brewed by home. My home brews homebrewed homebrew, homebrewing homebrew that homebrews homebrewing homebrew.
I like the idea of an "overcompensation..." Maybe like GoodKraken says, he tries very hard to ensure someone's safety, but maybe overlooking the safety of others? Or, by doing things recklessly, and risking his own safety? Sort of, I'm not good enough, doesn't matter if I die...
Perhaps he has an obsession with being clean, or is constantly looking for herbs, lotions, and other possible cures for his physical afflictions.

His flaw could be paranoia. An ideal for him could be that he wants to see the world or grow powerful enough to not fear the hag.
Mostly nocturnal
help build a world here
That sounds like it could work
