Hi. I am new to DND.... And I found a table with a DM using 2014 rules. It will be my first time playing DND. I was thinking of building a single class character (since I am new and want something easy) that would be a good mix (balanced) tank and damage dealer. Also, was thinking of using two weapon fighting (dual wield).
I personally would go with an Eldritch Knight for spell casting capabilities to help on the battlefield along with decent non-magic damage. If this doesn’t interest you, hexblade warlock is really good, allowing a ton of possibilities with eldritch invocations.
For a dex based build, I would go monk, specifically the warrior of the open hand. For the feat I would choose mobile, because at level three (assuming you choose a race with 30 feet movement) without wearing armour your ac will be 14 (assuming you use pointbuy) and your speed will be 50 feet, allowing you to make great use of dash and disengage.
I thought about that, but I did not like the 2014 monk. So I was thinking Eldritch Knight or Battlemaster fighter or hexblade Warlock. For Eldritch Knight I was thinking about only using buffs so I wouldn't need a high Int.
Hexblade warlocks are good but I wouldn't describe them as tanky. I think being focussed on damage deeling and tanking your main options are fighter, Barbarian and Paladin, Barbarians really have to be strength based however. Paladins are good but some of their best abilities are Charisma meaning you want high Charisma, as well as Dex (or Strength) and Constritution for HP which can be tricky to balance.
Be aware that using a two handed weapon will generally do more damage than two weapon fighting, but for two handed weapons your would need to be strength based. Sword and board is a valid option reducing your damage to gain some survivability.
If you go fighter there are plenty of subclasses to choose from, Battle master is solid though in my opinion Echo knight and Rune Knight are at least as good. The echo knight take a bit of understanidng how the echo works but watching a video or something will help you realise all the things you can do with it.

What do you think?
Of these Eldritch Knight is the most tanky, and Hexblade Warlock will deal the most damage - 5e is generally designed around trading damage for tankiness. Battlemaster is designed for people who like tactics and strategy.
Two-weapon fighting isn't great in 2014, typically archery or heavy-weapons deal much more damage, but two-weapon fighting is pretty reliable in the damage it deals rather than being "swingy" like archery and heavy weapons. If you are going for a DEX-focus then I'd recommend picking a race/species with some good skill proficiencies because there are lots of Dex-skills that are very fun & useful for all kinds of stuff inside and outside of combat.

Getting an extra skill proficiency or two frm your race/species is fine but a lot more features have a greater impact such as flight or a feat (though a lot of races with flight restrict your armor typeswhich might not fit your character). If you do go duel wielding bugbear is a decent option more because of surprise attack that proficiency in stealth (both are good but surprise attack is better if you have multiple attacks and worth to get a decent initiative.
This list isn't exclusive and species is not an area you need to optimise you can just go with what you want to roll play.
Since you are new to Dnd, I would not try to mix spell casting and tanking. Keep it simple and do a battle master or even a champion. Two weapon fighting is not as strong in 2014 rules as it is in 2024 rules so you can still be a damage dealer but you will be slightly behind on your potential. Nothing wrong with that - do what you enjoy and don't sweat the slightly less damage. Keep in mind that you also will be less of a tank if you are not using a shield.

Thanks for the advice.

I think battle master is good with their maneuvers. If I were you, I would choose that.
Thanks you Very much!!!!
