In my current game with other players I play a monk/rouge lvl 10 monk /rouge 1 now my character is a high elf who is very young.... 27years... he’s a runaway from a noble family. I thought it would be fun to play. Currently we are in my home country in the lands that my family controls. The head of security is plotting to kill the high priest and take over power of the main religious power of the kingdom. He is working with a rouge sect of monk order and is also planning on stealing items that are being blessed for a seven day festival. My characters family is also there to take him back. He needs proof of treachery. Multiple boxes have been placed through out the sea island town with statues that can be remote controlled. I have a book with proof of plot to kill the priest. My testimony is also part of the evidence. But more proof is needed. To remove the head of security from position the power of the church is needed or contact the king and queen( but I don’t know them) my family may be able to temporarily remove him from power but since I ran away not on the best terms with my father. I used a sending scroll to contact and inform him of the situation. No reply but the two people who were following me in the shadows( I knew they were there and who they represented) came out and lead me to a warehouse and 20 or so mercenaries are there basically to take me home. I’m about to speak to them to try and convince them to help me. Mercenaries can be bought so maybe that’s a route. But the two people in my family may or not be as helpful. Also depending on how the situation is handled I may be brought to the king and queen to be executed. My character has 12 int but 22 wisdom. He has an item to help break the limits. He doesn’t care about credit he cares about his people that live under the care of his family. Even if the situation is solved he may have to go home and face the consequences. He is prepared to do so. But if he can talk his way into adventuring still he will do so. After all he owns a magical long ship which he gained after the death of a close friend with dream of being a merchant. He wishes to carry out that dream for his friend. He doesn’t necessarily have a goal in mind. He basically lives for the people around him. But in the end he is still a child. One that has affected the world in different ways that no other elf child has done. This is the very first game I have ever played so I’m not sure how to role play very well. I’m learning. So that’s why I ask for advice
Man - however you try to talk your way out of it, just don't let them surround you. Your movement speed should be about 50 feet right now? So, step of the wind and you can dash for your action AND bonus action (150 feet of movement - for 10 turns in a row), jump distance is doubled, and you can run up walls and across water. Plus, slow fall lets you basically jump off an 8 story building and take no damage. Also, you can't be charmed, frightened, or poisoned.
If it goes south, just start moving. You're nearly impossible for them to catch and even if they start firing arrows, you have deflect missiles and evasion. Run up a wall, out of a window (warehouses have to have some sort of windows or vents for air circulation), jump down, and keep moving. Once you get far enough away, cunning action to hide.
What Maestrino said: keep a distance when you speak, don't let them surround you and at first sign of things not going your way, run like a mofo.
Also, just a pet peeve of mine and sorry but: for the love of all things fluffy it's R O G U E. Rouge is French for red. Once is a typo. Thrice triggers brain aneurysms. Yes, I'm weird.
