My Necromancer just reached level 7 and I’m in a huge struggle to decide which 4th level spell I’ll chose.
He is a classic Necromancer Wizard making the most of skeleton army created with Animate Dead and usually leveraging controlling spells to improve the effectiveness of the skellies; things like Web, Mind Whip and Slow. I also got Summon Undead as a backup spell because my DM is starting to throw some magic resistant / legendary saves creatures against us and then my controlling spells are pretty much useless.
What do you guys recommend? I’m trying to avoid Concentration spells or only blasting spells, but I’m open to all suggestion.
If you've got a small army, then it would be helpful to be able to make holes in stone walls, or create stairs/ramps to help your army navigate difficult terrain. You could also use it to create defensive walls, if you are planning an ambush. etc...
Hallucinatory Terrain would be good for similar reasons. If your army is too large, you can hide them within a massive illusion. The ditches on either side of the road could be filled with skeletal archers, but just look like a gully of mud/trees.
And Fabricate for unlimited reasons. You can use it to arm all of your minions, make them armor, or create custom mass transport resources.

Stone Shape might not be a bad choice.

Great tips, thanks for your return. I haven’t thought about Hallucinatory Terrain, it’s a shame it is 10 minute cast, really cool spell.
Yeah, it's particularly great for NPCs who can be set up ahead of time.
If your campaign doesn't give you many opportunities to anticipate and prepare for encounters, then it isn't likely to see much use.
