Scroll, rare

Wrapped in scales hardened by time and bound with silver thread, this ritual scroll carries the whispered cunning of the yuan-ti. Its serpentine script slithers across the vellum when touched, revealing the mind-altering spell suggestion to those who dare attune to its ancient venomous wisdom.

A spellcaster who studies this scroll for 1 hour gains access to the suggestion spell. This spell does not count against your known or prepared spells, but it can only be cast as a ritual (if you have the Ritual Caster trait) or using a spell slot at its base level and normal casting time. The spell requires no material components when cast in this way.

If the suggestion spell is on your spell list but is of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must succeed on a spellcasting ability check (DC = 10 + the spell’s level) to cast it. On a failed check, the scroll resists your will—the arcane script coils and hisses before fading temporarily. The scroll becomes unreadable and unusable for 1 minute as the serpent magic recoils from the unworthy.

If the spell requires a saving throw or attack roll, use a spell save DC of 13 and a +5 spell attack bonus.

If you are a wizard, you may attempt to copy this spell into your spellbook. Doing so requires a successful DC 12 Intelligence (Arcana) check. On a success, the spell is copied as normal.

The spell knowledge lingers for 7 days before it fades from your mind, unless refreshed by studying the scroll again.
