Weapon (greataxe), legendary (requires attunement by a Barbarian or Fighter)

The masterwork of nationally acclaimed arcane blacksmith, Gregor. This greataxe is made from various monster parts and rare metals but holds power greater than the sum of its parts.

This weapon is lighter than usual for its type, allowing it to be used in one hand. While wielded in one hand, it deals 1d10 Slashing damage. When wielded in two hands, it deals 1d12 Slashing damage. You gain +2 to attacks and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

The Slayer's Heart has 12 charges and regains 2d6 expended charges daily at dawn. While attuned to this weapon, you can expend charges to activate the following abilities:

  • Slayer's Guard. You can expend 1 charge to cast the shield spell as a reaction to being the target of an attack roll or the magic missile spell. The spell requires no spell components when cast this way and adds a +5 magical bonus to your AC until the start of your next turn. The shield spell also prevents all damage from magic missile.
  • Slayer's Strike. Before making an attack roll, you can expend 2 charges to add 2d8 damage on a hit. Choose one of the following damage types when you expend the charges: RadiantNecroticFireCold, or Thunder. Only one damage type may be chosen per attack.
  • Slayer's Final Blow. You can expend all remaining charges in the weapon and forgo all other actions on your turn to make a single melee weapon attack. You gain a bonus to the attack and damage rolls equal to the number of charges expended. On a hit, the attack deals an additional 1d6 magical slashing damage for each charge expended.

Proficiency with a Greataxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Ignore Weapon Property: Two-Handed, Damage: Slashing, Barbarian or Fighter, Damage, Combat, Heavy, Two-Handed, Cleave
