Weapon (pistol), very rare (requires attunement)

Forged from brass and tivium, Theoden's Acid Cantripper hums with unusual magical energy. It is unlike any known weapon or arcane focus. This peculiar weapon has a short, flared nozzle that resembles some sort of mechanical serpent. The grip is inscribed with glowing, green runes that softly pulse when it is charged. Near the top of the grip is a rotating ring, marked with sigils indicating two modes: a curved glyph for "Arc" and a straight line for "Pierce".

With a twist of the ring and a pulse of magic, the mechanism shifts seamlessly between forms. Drawing the ring back toward the grip channels arcane pressure through the device and releases either a lobbed orb of hissing acid or a tightly compressed dart that sears through the air.

This weapon as two modes: Lobber and Pistol. You can switch modes as a bonus action.

This cantripper has 8 charges and can be wielded as a spellcasting focus. You can use the charges in the following ways while wielding it:

  • Lobber Mode (Arc). You can expend 1 charge to cast the Acid Splash cantrip.
    • This mode is unable to benefit from sneak attack or features that rely on attack rolls.
  • Pistol Mode (Pierce). You can expend 2 charges to make a ranged spell attack with the following traits:
    • Ranged spell attack using your spellcasting modifier
    • Range: 30/90
    • On a hit: the target takes 1d10 + your spellcasting modifier acid damage.
      • The damage increases by 1d10 when you reach levels 5 (2d10), 11 (3d10), and 17 (4d10)
    • This attack counts as a ranged weapon attack for features like Sneak Attack, if conditions are met.
  • Caustic Surge. While in Pistol Mode, you may expend 3 charges to enhance the attack.
    • On a hit: the target takes an additional 2d10 acid damage
    • This feature must be declared before the attack roll is made.
    • You may only use Caustic Surge once per long rest, regardless of charges remaining.

Regaining Charges. The cantripper regains all charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the pistol takes does not regain any charges and you must wait for the next dawn.

Proficiency with a Pistol allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
