Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement by a spellcaster)

An ornate longsword with what seems to be a closed eye carved into the hilt. There is visible wear and tear, suggesting that the creation of this blade dates back centuries or even millennia. The once-powerful magic of the blade now hums faintly, weakened by the passage of time.

As long as you are attuned to it, the sword has the following properties.

Magic Conduit. This weapon is a valid target for the spell Shillelagh. While under the effects of Shillelagh, if its original damage die is larger than what Shillelagh would change it to, you can choose to keep its original damage die.

Seeing-Eye. The blade senses danger and will assist you in times of need. When you are in a dangerous situation, or when initiative is rolled, the eye on the sword's hilt will open, revealing an eldritch eye with fading vision. A cataract clouds the lens of the eye. When the eye is open, you gain 10 feet of magical blindsight centered on the sword. This means that if the sword were to be thrown, dropped, or otherwise taken off your person, the vision radius of the blindsight would remain with the sword, allowing you to see around it as long as it is within your line of sight. The eye closes if you are no longer in danger, or if you are more than 60 feet away from it.

At 8th level, your bond with the sword allows you to utilize the eye's vision more freely. The eye will no longer close when you move too far away from it. As an action, you can utter a command word to cause the eye to open even if there is no imminent danger. The sword must be within 5 feet of you to hear the command word. The eye can remain open in this way for up to 5 minutes. You can open the eye in this way once per long rest. You can restore your use of this feature by expending either a spell slot or a use of Second Wind.

At 10th level, you are able to utilize the eye's affinity for the arcane. When the eye opens, you can choose to apply the effects of Detect Magic to the blindsight. The spell's effects are only active within the radius of the blindsight, and will last until the eye closes. You can apply this effect once per long rest, and you can restore your use of it by expending a spell slot.

At 12th level, the bond deepens. You can now now see the blindsight radius through up to 1 foot of stone, dirt, or wood, 1 inch of metal, or a thin sheet of lead. You can now utter the command word to open the eye at any distance. When the eye is opened through its command word, it can remain open for up to 30 minutes.

Scabbard. The blade has an accompanying scabbard that can magically change shape. While in its normal form, the scabbard can be fastened to your person like normal. While in either of its other forms, the scabbard requires a free hand to hold it. The sword can be unsheathed or sheathed freely in any form, and the scabbard can change forms with the sword sheathed or unsheathed.

  • Shield. As a bonus action or when initiative is rolled, you utter a command word and the scabbard magically widens into the shape of a small shield. While in this form, it has the properties of a shield and grants a +2 bonus to AC.
  • Staff. As a bonus action or when initiative is rolled, you utter a different command word and the scabbard magically extends to the shape and size of a quarterstaff. While in this form, the scabbard has the properties of a quarterstaff.

The scabbard can be returned to its normal shape as a bonus action.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
