This is an ancient, ornate weapon native to the Rifenmist jungles of the south of Tal'Dorei. While these weapons are ordinarily made of wood, this one appears to be made of a silvery, slightly flexible metal, and is decorated with beautiful threads of white and blue.
The weapon consists of two parts: the atlatl itself, roughly two feet long, with a handle on one end, and a hook at the other for loading the ammunition, and the ammunition itself, in this case, an elegant, deadly-looking 8 foot spear.
Yaotl the Wintry is a sentient weapon, crafted with the soul of a long-dead Empress of Tz' Arrm. She was a kind and just ruler, and her reign saw prosperity and peace for many years. Before she passed, she willed her soul to forever protect her lands, and fight in the name of truth against injustice. And so this elegant atlatl was born.
If Yaotl senses that she is being wielded by a Lawful character, she will speak with them and seek to understand them. If she believes that they fight for what is good and right, she will tell them her command word: "Atzi". A humanoid can spend a bonus action to speak the command word, which will instantly return the spear to the atlatl up to a range of 200 feet. This appears as the spear dissolving into snowflakes, blown by an unfelt wind back to atlatl, and re-materializing, readied to be thrown.
Yaotl can also impart many wisdoms and insights into the ancient past, if asked the right questions. She does not, however, have a good understanding or working knowledge of the current state of the world.
