Wondrous Item, rare

The Smith's Crucible was created generations ago by the great Artificer Runkkoss Scugbum of the House Scugbum. Needing a way to store molten metal the Smith's Crucible was created using similar principles as the Arc Smelter. Similar in appearance to a test tube the Smith's Crucible appears to be made of stone. A small rune can be seen on the bottom of the tube. The top appears to be of a clockwork construction with odd writing engraved on it.

Connected to an extradimensional space the molten metal floats and flows in a continuous circular motion in the tube. The tube can hold 6 lbs of metal and always weighs 1 lb. The metal can be summoned through the cap of the tube which extends into a funnel for easy pouring.

The cap can suspend a single drop of molten metal up to 2 inches from it's surface (any metal suspended like this is still molten hot unless acted upon by some magical means). Due to the magic nature of the cap the top never gets hot and feels ice cold to the touch. The flow of metal can be controlled by the user as well as the ability to open and close the cap, proficient use of this tool allows to user to request specific amounts of metal from the crucible which must be poured.

If the tube is overloaded, pierced, or torn, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane.

Placing a Smith's Crucible inside an extradimensional space created by a bag of holdinghandy haversack, portable hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can't be reopened.
