Wondrous Item, rare

This glass and iron sphere measures 3 inches in diameter and weighs 1 pound. You can use an action to throw this orb at a Large or smaller creature you can see within 20 feet of you (60 feet at disadvantage). If the sphere hits the target, a portal the size of the creature opens up and attempts to teleport the creature to Volo's Pocket Dimension. 

Make a ranged attack roll with an attack bonus equal to your Dexterity modifier plus your proficiency bonus. On a hit, the target must make a dexterity saving throw DC 12. On a failed save, the creature is teleported to Volothamp Geddarm research facility where the creature can be documented, categorized, analyzed, and studied to be included in Volo expanding encyclopedia of the Guide of Monsters for the Modern Adventure. The orb is designed to works on weaken/subdued creatures; the creature must have 15 total hp or less or the orb fails to teleport the target. If the user targets a creature with 0 hp there is an 85% chance of creating an undead version of the targeted creature and transports the undead creature back to the location it was captured. 

The orb is not designed to teleport creature with 0 HP, undead, or humanoid creatures. Using the orb to capture creatures that it was not designed for will remove the structural integrity of the item. The DM will roll a D20. If the dice amount is equal to or less than the number of invalid creatures that are currently stored in the orb, then all of the capture creatures would be released from the pocket dimension and the orb would be destroyed. 

Once the orb is used, they can't be used again until the next dawn.
