A silver ring with a blackened gem in the middle that seems to entice anyone who sees it. When the previous owner dies, the ring chooses a new owner. If the current owner tries to get rid of the ring, it always appears with their stuff the next morning or in a few hours. Exposure to radiant magic temporarily stops the whispering and forces the entity into dormancy. If the entity is already dormant, then it will stay dormant for an additional 3 days.
When worn, the entity inside will swiftly take the souls of everyone in a 10-mile radius and pile the bodies in a way that allows people to see the inscription in the ring from above. The entity will then be dormant for a month (possibly more depending on the number of souls that has been taken) before taking more souls. However, creatures with a challenge rating or level of 15 or greater are exempt and instead experience 1 level of exhaustion. Undead creatures are not affected at all. If the wearer has an evil alignment, they can converse with the entity to pick and choose certain souls to be exempt. Wearers with any other alignment can make a persuasion check. Wearers must be attuned to the ring to converse with the entity and gain damage resistances.
When not worn, the owner will experience whispers in their head in a mix of ancient infernal, ancient elvish, and ancient sylvan. However, the owner will only realize this on a successful Intelligence (DC 15) check. If the owner knows infernal, elvish, and sylvan, they have advantage. The owner will also have to make periodic wisdom saves (DC 13) and put the ring on if they fail the save. If the owner knows infernal, sylvan, or elvish, they have disadvantage. If the owner has an evil alignment, they don't have to make the save.
