Weapon (spear), uncommon (requires attunement by a monk)

This appears to be a normal spear with a bunch of red feathers tied behind the razor-sharp metal tip made from a usual metal. The most unique feature however is how flexible the shaft is compared to other spears. When any class other than a monk attempts to use this spear, they find it ungainly and hard to control no matter how long they practice with it, resulting in a -2 penalty to attack.

A monk can attune to the spear while holding on to it during a short rest while concentrating their ki on the weapon. When attuned, the flexibility of the spear grants the monk a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. The spear's unique construction grants a greater chance of performing a critical attack (19-20).

During an attack, a monk can choose on a successful hit to infuse one ki point into the spear to cause one of the following effects:

  • The ki causes the red feathers around the tip to shine brightly and move in a hypnotic way, causing the creature to lose its ability to perform any reactions until the end of your next turn. Creatures that are immune to charm when hit must pass a DC15 Charisma saving throw to avoid the effect.
  • The ki causes the metal tip to glow bright white, causing an additional 1d6 points of radiant damage (2d6 against creatures who are vulnerable to radiant damage like undead). A creature when hit must pass a DC10 Dexterity saving throw or will be blinded until the end of your next turn.

On a natural attack roll of 1, there is a 1 in 10 chance (1d10) that the spear will break and lose its magical capabilities. To regain its magical powers, the spear must be repaired at a monastery that follows the same monastic tradition as your character. It then must be left in the monastery's meditation chamber for 30 days to be cleansed of impurities. The weapon will need to be attuned again after the repair and cleansing are complete.

Proficiency with a Spear allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
