An axe thrower at a traveling circus wanted to extend his repertoire of trick throws and in each town and city the circus set up he used to visit all traders for something appropriate. It took a long search and an underground store for thieves and assassins of all places for him to find something he could use. He found an extra weighed throwing axe of which he was told that if thrown well it could ricochet of solid objects and was originally meant for assassins wanting to get to a well secured target.
It looks fairly common but is of very high quality and has a grip made of mother of pearl, furthermore it is more then 50% heavier then a normal axe of that size.
This +2 throwing axe has the uncanny ability that on a critical hit it partly scalps the target it is thrown at. If a target's head is obscured the throw is done by a planned ricochet or with a large and steep arch. Because of this the critical damage increases by 2 damage dice for each such hit.
Over time more and more axe and knife thrower circus performers sought out a weapon like this for the same reason which lead to a few assassins joining the circus under cover of being a skilled knife or axe thrower.
Proficiency with a Handaxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
Notes: Light, Thrown, Vex
