This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action.
If the bag is overloaded, pierced, or torn, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane. If the bag is turned inside out, its contents spill forth, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again. Breathing creatures inside the bag can survive up to a number of minutes equal to 10 divided by the number of creatures (minimum 1 minute), after which time they begin to suffocate.
Placing a bag of holding inside an extradimensional space created by a handy haversack, portable hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can’t be reopened.

Posted Nov 13, 2022I noticed nobody appears to have answered the question that was asked about whether objects in a bag of holding are counted as moving when the bag moves or if they are in an extradimensional stasis.
If the second is true it allows you to circumnavigate several rules restrictions.
Does anyone know the RAW answer?

Posted Dec 2, 2022It's a private pocket dimension. But there is a creature called the bag man that moves from one bag if holding to the next. It's a homebrew but very cool.

Posted Jan 4, 2023When in doubt with what type of magic a magic item is, you can always go with Enchantment in a pinch. However, I'd probably guess Conjuration, since spells like Demiplane are also considered Conjuration.

Posted Jan 21, 2023No, as specific beats general.
is specific, and as the specific "inside an extradimensional space created by an item", states nothing about the spells Magnificent Mansion or Rope Trick.

Posted Mar 1, 2023That sucks, I was really hoping at a minimum the weight you could carry would change. I guess I can’t make a swimming pool with a bag of holding.

Posted May 14, 2023Alright, just in case you're feeling real cheesy today, here's how to flush the BBEG down the toilet with bags of holding. You'll need two extradimensional spaces, preferably a bag of holding and a portable hole, and you'll also need a block and tackle.
Step 1: Spread the portable hole on the ground, and set up the block and tackle so it hangs the bag of holding right above it, in an area where the BBEG is probably going to be walking by. For instance, a hallway in their fortress. Have your party rogue stationed so they can manipulate the block and tackle, but are further than 10 feet away from the portable hole, and are hidden.
Step 2: Wait until the BBEG gets within 10 feet of the portable hole.
Step 3: Let go of the block and tackle, so that the bag of holding drops directly into the portable hole.
Step 4: The BBEG doesn't get a save or anything. You may now watch as they are pulled through a random judgement portal and sent flying into the astral plane forever, due to the otherwise completely useless property at the end of this item's description.
Yup, just completely gone with two magic items that aren't even supposed to be used for combat purposes. I don't even know why the designers decided to put that last part there and in the process make this tomfoolery possible. Perhaps a reference to paradox black holes?

Posted May 23, 2023I don't know if it's been suggested, but I've just made a "House Rule" concerning these.
All Dimensional boundaries are positively charged, and thus repel one another. Two magic points can be used to "Reverse the Polarity" of the boundary, allowing the standard rules to apply. This lasts only for two rounds.
This protects accidental implosions and destruction of player items and portable locations, but still allows for it to be done deliberately as part of a "Hail Mary" by a player (I'm fairly sure no-one "Wants" to end up in a random location on the Astral Plane)

Posted Aug 23, 2023My Paladin used a bag of holding and a portable hole to stop Tiamat from killing his friends at the end of The Rise of Tiamat. We were all done for and Tiamat was looming over me, so I dumped my portable hole into my bag of holding as she ate me. My paladin died but Tiamat was transported to the astral plane... the rest of the party then pursued her throughout Spelljammer: Adventures in Space!
