This small black sphere measures 3/4 of an inch in diameter and weighs an ounce. Typically, 1d4 + 4 beads of force are found together.
You can use an action to throw the bead up to 60 feet. The bead explodes on impact and is destroyed. Each creature within a 10-foot radius of where the bead landed must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 5d4 force damage. A sphere of transparent force then encloses the area for 1 minute. Any creature that failed the save and is completely within the area is trapped inside this sphere. Creatures that succeeded on the save, or are partially within the area, are pushed away from the center of the sphere until they are no longer inside it. Only breathable air can pass through the sphere's wall. No attack or other effect can.
An enclosed creature can use its action to push against the sphere's wall, moving the sphere up to half the creature's walking speed. The sphere can be picked up, and its magic causes it to weigh only 1 pound, regardless of the weight of creatures inside.
Notes: Damage: Force, Damage, Control, Combat, Consumable
Combine this with Hunger Of Hadar and create a sphere of inescapable death
At high levels this is a cheap invinciblity spell
Could you theoretically fire this from a flintlock?
Does anything break the bubble? Dispel Magic? Disintegrate?
((Who does ranged attacks? Beads of force seem to be a ranged attack, with a nice containment effect. Sparks could use them, but he is more likely to be in melee than trying for a ranged option.))
I've seen a Strength save of 15 to escape/help someone escape it as well as dispel magic.
"Only breathable air can pass through the sphere's wall. No attack or other effect can."
Any attack or other effect means anything; so RAW even a dispel magic wouldn't work.
other effects can pass through the sphere.....dispel magic can be cast on the sphere it self....so this can work with dispel magic.
So let's say I put my level 20 barbarian in this and then cast catapult on the sphere at level 9 with (extended spell?) Would he take the damage or just what he was thrown into? Would it break or would you have to wait till it almost opened up?
Catapult damages the target and item. I’d treat any creatures inside the sphere as collateral damage of the spell.
Does this require a ranged attack to work?
No.
Can spells that target a location you can see such as Shatter, target a point inside the sphere?
Nothing like being able to finish a Tarrasque encounter and carry him around with you forever with a simple rare magic item.
Could you potentially use this to trap a creature then throw them into some sort of pit, or bury them alive? Would they take fall damage if so?
Not really. The creature is only stuck for 1 minute (10 rounds).
Have the quest-giving NPC give this to the party so they can carry the BBEG to prison in a hamster ball.
Since only breathable air can pass into the sphere, are creatures inside it both blinded and deafened?? And would this negate tremor sense?
