Armor (chain shirt), rare
You gain a +1 bonus to AC while you wear this armor. You are considered proficient with this armor even if you lack proficiency with medium armor.
Made of interlocking metal rings, a chain shirt is worn between layers of clothing or leather. This armor offers modest protection to the wearer's upper body and allows the sound of the rings rubbing against one another to be muffled by outer layers.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Proficiency: Self, Combat, Warding

Posted Feb 3, 2022You are correct. This is caster armor, not rogue armor.

Posted Mar 17, 2022I might give them a full Dex bonus, but in my games, I try to stay clear of bonuses for sex. But hey, you do you, not kink-shaming here bud. It is a "FANTASY GAME" after all.

Posted Jun 2, 2022I think anything that has a Sex bonus should be of full benefit of that bonus 😂😂😂😂

Posted Jun 4, 2022No it doesn't attack with other armour. Wearing plate over this doesn't give any extra ac. You choose either this or plate

Posted Jul 20, 2022No. The prevailing AC would be whichever is highest. It would only provide protection if say there was an attack that somehow bypassed one armor set but would be stopped by the other. The rarity of that would make it not practical.

Posted Aug 30, 2022It seems the description on this one was not well thought through... I would make this armor light (it is made of mithral: so the weight is 10 lbs?). Given you can wear it under clothes how is this medium armor?
It would also seem pretty odd elves would make this armor if their bladesingers couldnt wear it and cast spells... otherwise what purpose does it really have ?

Posted Sep 1, 2022It is not mithral and it is not light armor. It is identical to a regular chain shirt (Medium, 20lbs, 13 + Dex modifier (max 2)).
The "elven" part simply adds: "You gain a +1 bonus to AC while you wear this armor. You are considered proficient with this armor even if you lack proficiency with medium armor."
It's basically just a chain shirt +1 but you don't need armor proficiency to use it. It's perfect for a wizard and terrible for a rogue.

Posted Sep 2, 2022Pretty sure it used to be mithril in AD&D (1st and second edition).
I guess they decided to offically nerf it.
Does Drow Chainmail still officially exist? That used to be made of slightly warped Adamantine....

Posted Jan 6, 2023Anyone can wear this armor. Since it specifies you don't need medium armor proficenecy to benefit yes a sorcerer can use it. There are not racial restrictions on armor types some magical ones require a certain race to be able to attune to it but that is in the description.

Posted Feb 12, 2023They nerfed this for 5th edition. In 2nd edition, "This magical armor is so fine and light that is can be worn under normal clothing without revealing its presence. It's lightness and flexibility allow even magic users and thieves to use it with few restrictions. Elven Fighter/Mages use it without restriction." Being a rare item, it should grant you full dexterity bonuses, instead of a max of +2. Being rare should be a reason for excitement when (the DM allows it) it is found as it would be the only medium armor to allow for full dexterity bonuses. I would do away with the +1 AC bonus for the ability to wear it without the Dex restrictions. My elven character just found this in a campaign and found it provided no better armor than his nonmagical leather armor. With a Dexterity of 20 (+5 to AC), the armor class was the exact same. Needless to say, I'll be selling the Elven Chain mail and buying some non-magical Studded leather armor which provides more AC than this.
