These iron horseshoes come in a set of four. While all four shoes are affixed to the hooves of a horse or similar creature, they increase the creature's walking speed by 30 feet.
I was just about to comment "This would be so dope on a Centaur. I bet you can. Centaur's wouldnt be able to use the Boots of Haste, so maybe this can make up for that. Although these seem like theyd be a little easier to come across, giving a centaur an advantage earlier on if they find it.
Man, imagine a centaur monk with these bad boys on. I wonder how the monk's 'you can move on vertical surfaces' and 'centaurs can't climb for anything' interact.
I mean, you don't get the 'people have disadvantage in opportunity attacks' benefit of the boots of speed, but these are ALWAYS ON, not just 10 minutes of use. The double walking speed vs +30 walking speed is mostly an even wash, but doubling the speed instead of adding to it can definitely give even more of an edge to an already fast character. (Looking at you, wood elf rogue scouts with the mobile feat. Or any tabaxi.)
Another thing to note is that these don't require attunement, unlike most types of other footwear. This opens up more combinations that can take advantage of the added ground speed.
Would you be able to equip these to a construct, such as an artificer's steel defender? The verbiage states "a horse or a similar creature" so I would assume that means any mount
Hey Mike Mearls, can I equip these on my centaur?

I would assume this would be limited to mounts that have hooves specifically considering what a horseshoe is.
this items rules are pretty loose IMO. I think this is a "ask your DM" type of item.
Is there a way to apply this item to my Mount in the "Extras" tab?
To change the speed in the stat block? Or maybe just allowing customization to the speed field?
Can I mass produce these? I own a shipping company. I could make more gold if the horses get the deliveries done faster....lol
Pretty sure having a feature named "Equine Build" means you qualify for anything that requires a horse-like creature.
I'd say yes.
Would you be able to update these so they work, properly, in D&DBeyond for a Centaur?
Bonus: Walking +30
I have re-rolled this so it works (Hooves of Speed) on my centaur, but would much rather use the original, as I did not create the original.
Thank you,
