When you nock an arrow on this bow, it whispers in Elvish, "Swift defeat to my enemies." When you use this weapon to make a ranged attack, you can, as a command phrase, say, "Swift death to you who have wronged me." The target of your attack becomes your sworn enemy until it dies or until dawn seven days later. You can have only one such sworn enemy at a time. When your sworn enemy dies, you can choose a new one after the next dawn.
When you make a ranged attack roll with this weapon against your sworn enemy, you have advantage on the roll. In addition, your target gains no benefit from cover, other than total cover, and you suffer no disadvantage due to long range. If the attack hits, your sworn enemy takes an extra 3d6 piercing damage.
While your sworn enemy lives, you have disadvantage on attack rolls with all other weapons.
Proficiency with a Longbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.
Notes: Damage: Piercing, Damage, Combat, Bane, Ammunition, Heavy, Range, Two-Handed, Slow

Posted Aug 9, 2019Best used with the Arcane Archer of the Fighter class. At 7th level all their arrows are considered magical,
and it is hard to miss your sworn enemy, since you have advantage. But if you do, you will now know how
to curve the shot to another target for one last try,
One downside is that you only get ONE sworn enemy a day. They won't last long with two shots at them
every round 2d8 + 6d6 + 2 x DX bonus. Add in a grasping or blasting arcane shot for another 2d6.
Works great to take out a "big bad."

Posted Sep 23, 2019Question.
The text of the Oathbow states that it whispers in Elvish. If it makes sense for the story, could it be altered to a different race, like Orc or Goblin (really any race)? Additionally, I’ve seen some random information stating that the craftsman must be an Elf. Is this true? Or can that be equally changed for the sake of the story?

Posted Oct 10, 2019In the D&D 5e Errata DMG, this issue is addressed:
"Magic Weapons (p. 140). The section ends with a new paragraph: “If a magic weapon has the ammunition property, ammunition fired from it is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.”
In my opinion, this is a magical items simply because it requires a command word to activate the effect.

Posted Nov 20, 2019Hmm... always have advantage with this, huh? So I could build a Fighter/Rogue around this weapon, and at tenth level (5/5), have a +11 to hit (rolling with advantage), and be doing an average of 50 damage per turn!?
(1st attack: 1d8+DEX[bow]+3d6[sneak attack]+3d6[oathbow magic]. 2nd attack: same, less sneak attack. Total = 2d8+9d6+10 (w/max DEX)!)

„Clossus Slayer“ gives him another 1d8 most of the time (when enemy has lost at least one hit point) for the first attack.

Posted Apr 13, 2020RIP! I get the feeling a lot of players have this same reflex if their DM roleplays it diligently. xD
I don't think it's sentient, so it wouldn't have one.
