This 60-foot length of silk rope weighs 3 pounds and can hold up to 3,000 pounds. If you hold one end of the rope and use an action to speak the command word, the rope animates. As a bonus action, you can command the other end to move toward a destination you choose. That end moves 10 feet on your turn when you first command it and 10 feet on each of your turns until reaching its destination, up to its maximum length away, or until you tell it to stop. You can also tell the rope to fasten itself securely to an object or to unfasten itself, to knot or unknot itself, or to coil itself for carrying.
If you tell the rope to knot, large knots appear at 1- foot intervals along the rope. While knotted, the rope shortens to a 50-foot length and grants advantage on checks made to climb it.
The rope has AC 20 and 20 hit points. It regains 1 hit point every 5 minutes as long as it has at least 1 hit point. If the rope drops to 0 hit points, it is destroyed.
Notes: Advantage: Athletics, Movement, Utility, Exploration
OMG
Since it is a silk rope, I'm assuming that constricted targets can escape with a DC 17 Strength check like the Silk Rope.
so does this rope fly or just skid along the ground and up walls?
Hmm. I'm sad that you caon only command it to fasten itselfs to objects. So no bonus action commanding it to constrict or tie up or grapple a person then?
though I guess creatively you could tell it to fasten itself to .. itself, leaving a noose and have it consctrict that way or something.
I quite like this
There is a different rope for that
Could you fasten it to the hilt of an enemy's sword, and then on your next turn tell it to circle around their back, and fasten to their sword again? That would restrict their range of movement considerably.
That would be the Rope of Entanglement.
If you bondage yourself in this rope, could it be a form of armor? #shitmyplayerssay
fact check.
"destination you choose" can that be up? or does the rope need a tether point?
I would disagree, as it can hold up to 3000 pounds. For a human this would be physically impossible to break with raw strength. However a dex save to shimmy loose might work.
Could I use this to haul things behind me?
I mean ... it is a rope
Huh.. I wonder is the "destination" is any direction? Even up?
I'm assuming so. I see no reason it wouldn't..
How would you refluff this as something cool for the artificer? Less magical, more technological, gadgetey?
It's a great magic item, but It doesnt fit in my imagination with the fluff of an artificer.
Spiderman
Yeah, that would be cool. The problem is the rope moves very slowly. So it’s no good for that.
Mechanical spider with the rope attached? Wouldn't be able to do the knotting but everything else. Then just infuse the rope with magical fibres for added strength.
Make it a mechanical snake
I’ve been thinking the same thing. It’s the idea that covers all the bases.
I was really hoping that I could tie one end around my character's waist, tell the rope to climb a 50 ft wall, and then it could slowly pull me up as it slithers/snakes in that direction. :(
