Staff, very rare (requires attunement by a Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard)
You have resistance to cold damage while you hold this staff.
The staff has 10 charges. While holding it, you can use an action to expend 1 or more of its charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC: cone of cold (5 charges), fog cloud (1 charge), ice storm (4 charges), or wall of ice (4 charges).
The staff regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the staff turns to water and is destroyed.
Notes: Resistance: Cold, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizard, Damage, Control, Combat, Warding
This staff should be able to cast Ice Knife.
Dnd beyond didn’t make it
If you're the DM, add it. I would consider replacing one of the existing spells, instead of buffing the staff, but that's up to you.
Curious that casting wall of ice only requires 4 charges despite being a 6th-level spell. I wonder if the spell was originally a 4th-level spell when they made this and wasn't changed later on, either way, very cool it can cast it twice in a day.
The funny thing about the staff of frost is that Wall of ice is the best spell you can cast but it only costs 4 charges. (fog cloud is pretty good too) I got this in a game and was pretty much exclusively casting wall of ice.
Even though Wall of force is a 5th level spell and better than wall of ice which is 6th level, getting two free casts per day is really nice.
I got this thing very early in Rime of the Frostmaiden by sheer dumb luck. The party pretty much agreed that my character, a female druid, was the best one to have it (in part because we only had a Druid and Warlock, no Wizard or Sorceror) because my character was more reserved and nice, so she was the least likely to abuse it.
I mainly used it for utility until the endgame when I naturally got Ice Storm and Cone of Cold.
I'm planning to get this as a druid in a campaign I'm in. Where would I get it?
We would be using wall of ice everytime but every time we do our DM makes the enemy use fireball or "wall of fire" and it negates the 10d6...
