This item appears to be a longsword hilt. While grasping the hilt, you can use a bonus action to cause a blade of pure radiance to spring into existence, or make the blade disappear. While the blade exists, this magic longsword has the finesse property. If you are proficient with shortswords or longswords, you are proficient with the sun blade.
You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals radiant damage instead of slashing damage. When you hit an undead with it, that target takes an extra 1d8 radiant damage.
The sword's luminous blade emits bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet. The light is sunlight. While the blade persists, you can use an action to expand or reduce its radius of bright and dim light by 5 feet each, to a maximum of 30 feet each or a minimum of 10 feet each.
Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
Notes: Bonus: Magic, Damage: Radiant, Replace Damage Type: Radiant, Weapon Property: Finesse, Damage, Combat, Versatile, Sap
And it's totally awesome!
Worth noting, the Sunsword in Curse of Strahd was not originally created as such. Sergei's original sword had a crystal blade but the sword was broken in two and the blade was lost, leaving only the hilt (pommel, grip, guard, etc.). Only then when the blade was broken did the hilt manifest the abilities of a sun blade. So you're right, Sergei's original sword could well have been much more powerful. But the Sunsword in CoS isn't that original blade, it's only half.
Pretty impressive considering it's essentially a broken weapon.
I am playing as a way of mercy monk and talked to my dm about tweaking this a bit for my character. It is a staff, that when wielded turns into a scythe that does all the same damage and effects. I am also muticlassed as a death domain cleric so have proficiency with long sword’s anyways, but the scythe is more fun for my character. Just got it last session and am very excited to use it
just in case you didnt know by now. all rare magic items cost 500 to 5000 gp per dms disgrasion. if you were to buy it during character creation. then that amount is automaticly set to the max of 5000 GP
fugggg nooo cuzzo...im making DARTH VADER
Is this only for paladins and clerics?
closest thing to a lightsaber in DnD for all Star Wars fans
