The Crystal of Valor
The Sapphire Blade is a longsword made of crystal encased in mithril. It glows dimly during the day and brighter at night. It was made by condensing the essence of the moon and distilling it into the molten mithril before it was set around the crystal form. It requires attunement by a creature of non-evil alignment.
Sentience:
The Sapphire Blade is a sentient weapon of lawful good alignment. It has the following ability scores: Intelligence 10, Wisdom 14, Charisma 18. Caladbolg has Darkvision to 30 feet and is blind beyond that range.
It may communicate telepathically to any others within its Darkvision range. It understands and speaks Common, Elven, and the native tongue of its attuned user.
Personality:
The Sapphire Blade’s personality is stubborn and strong willed. It considers itself the equal of its attuned wielder and is fixated on being seen as honorable and valorous. It will strive to aid the weak and downtrodden, and will actively resist the wielder if they attempt to take blatantly evil actions.
Quirks:
While attuned to The Sapphire Blade, you feel compelled to make a show of helping those less fortunate. You are likely to put some coin in a beggar’s cup, enough that they would be incredulous and thank you loudly. The blade makes you loathe to run from a fight, and will cringe from “dishonorable” methods of gaining an advantage in any contest of skills. Finally, your hair grows to just below your shoulders overnight, and will always flow beautifully in a breeze or stream gallantly behind you as you charge into battle. If you cut it, it will grow back overnight to the same length.
Stats:
The Sapphire Blade is a +1-longsword made from mithril encased sapphire. It functions as a spellcasting focus or holy symbol.
By bathing the blade in distilled essence of moonlight over the course of a night-long ritual, the attuned user may alter the shape and form of the blade to any melee weapon that lacks the reach property.
Once per moonrise, as an action, the wielder may ask The Sapphire Blade for aid. As long as The Sapphire Blade is not upset at you for previous actions, you may recover some expended resources. You may recover up to (Character Level / 5) spell levels (minimum 1, rounded down), or (Character Level / 4) hit die (minimum 1, rounded down).
Growth:
As the wielder grows in power, new abilities may be unlocked
