The Shimmerscale is made of an unknown material (though the kobolds who possessed it for centuries believed it to be a scale from their draconic ancestor, it's actual material composition is unconfirmed), roughly 6 inches across, and shaped like a concave square. As its name suggests, the reddish tint of the item shimmers even when there is no obvious light source illuminating it.

Once a creature has attuned to the item, they gain the following features and abilities:

• Timeless Body (as the Druid class feature) - the magic of The Shimmerscale causes you to age more slowly. For every 10 years that pass, your body ages only 1 year.
• Awareness, Shimmerscale - you are aware of The Shimmerscale's exact location, distance from you, and direction of movement (if it is in motion). As an action, you can see The Shimmerscale's location and up to 5 feet in all directions out from it until the beginning of your next turn, gaining the benefits of any special senses you currently possess (darkvision, true sight, etc). During this time, you are blind with regards to your own sight.
• Awareness, Other Last Refuge Artifacts - 1/day; as the locate object spell; must target the other 2 artifacts connected to the temple on The Last Refuge; functions as long as you are on the same plane of existence as the other artifacts
• Prophecy - you can cast the prophecy spell once per year without the required material components. Premonitions gained through this casting can only be about topics that relate to the future of The Last Refuge.

The longer a creature remains attuned to The Shimmerscale, the more features and abilities become available.
