This rod appears as an inky black cylinder covered in barnacles. As a bonus action you call forth the shadows from deep in the sea and weave them together to solidify into a solid blade, you may then make 1 attack with the sword.
This weapon counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. It deals 2d8 psychic damage on a hit and has the finesse, light, and thrown properties (range 20/60). In addition, when you use the sword to attack a target that is in dim light or darkness, you make the attack roll with advantage.
If you drop the weapon or throw it, it dissipates at the end of the turn. Thereafter, while the spell persists, you can use a bonus action to cause the sword to reappear in your hand.
When you use a bonus action to activate the blade you may expen spell slots to cause the blade to do more damage. When using a spell slot of 3rd- or 4th-level the damage increases to 3d8. When using a 5th- or 6th-level spell slot, the damage increases to 4d8. When use a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the damage increases to 5d8.
Proficiency with a Rapier allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
