Armor (medium or heavy, but not hide), uncommon
Mithral is a light, flexible metal. A mithral chain shirt or breastplate can be worn under normal clothes.
If the armor normally imposes disadvantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks or has a Strength requirement, the mithral version of the armor doesn't.
Name | Type | AC | Strength | Stealth |
---|---|---|---|---|
Chain Shirt | Medium | 13 + Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | -- |
Scale Mail | Medium | 14 + Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | Disadvantage |
Breastplate | Medium | 14+ Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | -- |
Half Plate | Medium | 15+ Dex modifier (max 2) | -- | Disadvantage |
Ring Mail | Heavy | 14 | -- | Disadvantage |
Chain Mail | Heavy | 16 | Strength 13 | Disadvantage |
Splint | Heavy | 17 | Strength 15 | Disadvantage |
Plate | Heavy | 18 | Strength 15 | Disadvantage |
Notes: Stealth Disadvantage: Remove, Combat, Warding
3 years later and it STILL imposes disadvantage on all Dex stats
no as both are magical and it can only have 1 magic enchantment but obviously its up to your gm
And yet, there the word disadvantage appears next to most of them. I expect it would be better to replace the Stealth column with a weight column showing the reduced encumbrance.
Mithral armor does not cost 2k gold guys. Check the metal price per lb. It's at least 8K (material+500 for uncommon and crafting) . Adamantine is a lot more. They are not magical. The effects are not magical. The only thing magical can be the lore of crafting it. The only reason it's uncommon is so you don't make a +3 armor. +2 is legendary unless you homebrew an artifact I guess.
I typically add base item value to the suggested magic item value (if there is one).
for 2014 and 2024 rules, there is no price for mithral by lb in the book (as there is for adamantine bars, apparently you thought of those), so it counts as an uncommon magic item regardless of that, and has a component with a price fixed (the armor itself), so is 200gp and 10 days + the armor you have or wanna craft. If you already have the armor, it only cost 200gp and 10days, otherwise you have to also craft the normal item, in which case is half the cost of the item and divide the nromal price by 10 for the time
Full plate armor (18AC) normally cost 1500gp, so it costs 750gp to craft and takes 150 days (which is easier to actually buy it since is instantly, mybe rule it as a couple of days for adjustments) and as an uncommon magic item by RAW it will cost you 200gp and 10 days, half if someone helps, as being a full plate, i would dm even up to 4 people can work on it to make it 2 days full working on it in a blacksmith furnace
I don't remember which book table I was looking at. Anyway, the crafting rules are all over the place, and making it from raw materials is ridiculous. When we finish the campaigns of my dudes and it's my turn I'm making a crafting system. Am playing artificer and either it's ridiculously easy to make stuff or ridiculously long and hard. Depends on which books you look at. Anyway thank god for infusions, haven't crafted anything except the mithral armor which cost 8k in materials but did it in 4 days to offset the stupid price and since I'm an artificer time cut and stuff. The DM currently doesn't know what to do with all the bullshit systems because I'm either gonna equip my party pretty heavily or it's completely not worth it as we don't get weeks or months of downtime in towns or villages.
