Weapon (any sword), rare (requires attunement)
You can use a bonus action to speak this magic sword's command word, causing flames to erupt from the blade. These flames shed bright light in a 40-foot radius and dim light for an additional 40 feet. While the sword is ablaze, it deals an extra 2d6 fire damage to any target it hits. The flames last until you use a bonus action to speak the command word again or until you drop or sheathe the sword.

Posted Jun 18, 2022Don’t forget that a +3 weapon is also going to add to your hit AS WELL as the damage.

Posted Jun 18, 2022Magical weapons are generally indestructible by normal means, as far as I’ve learned. Normal force, however much, would be inadequate to destroy this. It should also never tarnish or discolor, nor should it gather dust.

Posted Jun 18, 2022Of course. You just can’t use two bonus actions in the same turn. Once you rage, you continue to be raging until it’s dropped by going unconscious, not attacking or being attacked, or dying etc. You don’t have to re-activate rage every turn. If you’re a barbarian, as soon as you think combat is going to begin, you can try to activate the sword. I don’t think you need to do anything special to maintain the flame beside hold the blade. It’s probably pretty threatening though, so if there WASNT going to be combat, there probably will be now. Stating to the DM that you want to activate it before combat if possible is probably helpful, and hopefully they’ll let you, otherwise you miss out on a lot having to either rage or activate this during your first then.

Posted Jun 21, 2022Sure, but a +3\+3 sword is Very Rare, whereas this "Rare" magic item does its {weapon} damage plus ~7 (2d6) Fire damage. So, there's no + to hit, but it is more than double the damage bonus (plus an improved torch), & still doesn't have limited uses. It's closer to the power level of a +3\+3 than a +2\+2; yet it's got merely a "Rare" rating. Kinda O.P. for it's rarity level!
