Zalamazar was considered mad amongst the rest of his fellow mages for he spent an absurd amount of resources and almost every waking moment of his free time crafting this cloak. If spending 40 years in the crafting of this magical object wasn't enough to make you believe in his insanity then his reasoning behind making it would be. For he started making this cloak after thinking about what would happen if you wore a suit of armor over another suit of armor! I can finally go outside and enjoy the life of an adventurer and thus started the downward spiral that is known today as his life's work, and although Zalamazar never did get to reap the fruits of his labors his grandaughter Nesa of Avalor sure did.
