Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement by a 8 Hours)

This longsword appears as a normal weapon at first glance, but its blade is actually a massive, fleshy tongue. When you attune to the Throngler, you become able to deal emotional damage to your enemies, affecting their psyche rather than their physical bodies.

  • When you attune to the Throngler, you gain proficiency in the Insight and Persuasion skills if you didn't already have it.

  • The Throngler has a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it.

Emotional Damage When you hit a creature with the Throngler, you deal Emotional Damage instead of slashing damage. The damage die is 1d8 for a one-handed attack and 1d10 for a two-handed attack. Additionally, the Throngler has the following properties:

Tongue of Truth You can use an action to cast the Zone of Truth spell (save DC 17) from the Throngler. Once you use this property, you can't use it again until the next dawn.

Emotional Strike When you hit a creature with the Throngler, you can choose to force the target to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 17). On a failed save, the target becomes affected by a random emotional effect. Roll a d6 and consult the table below to determine the effect. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

  1. Fear: The target is frightened for 1 minute.
  2. Grief: The target is incapacitated by sadness for 1 minute.
  3. Envy: The target becomes hostile towards its allies for 1 minute.
  4. Guilt: The target takes an additional 2d6 psychic damage and is stunned for 1 round.
  5. Shame: The target has disadvantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws for 1 minute.
  6. Confusion: The target is affected by the Confusion spell for 1 minute.

Once you use the Emotional Strike feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Sentience The Throngler is a sentient lawful neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 16, a Wisdom of 18, and a Charisma of 14. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet. The weapon can speak, read, and understand Common, and it can communicate with its wielder telepathically. Its voice is kind and soothing.

Personality The Throngler's main purpose is to force its enemies to confront their emotions and, in doing so, potentially make them rethink their actions. It prefers to avoid unnecessary bloodshed and values diplomacy and understanding over violence. The Throngler will encourage its wielder to take the path of peace and seek nonviolent solutions whenever possible.

If the wielder continually uses the Throngler for senseless violence or consistently ignores its advice, the sword might become uncooperative or even attempt to leave its wielder.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
