A set of 5 rings: The Rings of Erdurus
-
Ring of the Wizard – Prestidigitation 2x/day
-
Ring of the Warlock – Eldritch Blast 1d10 force dmg. 2x/day
-
Ring of the Paladin – Sword Burst 2x/day
-
Ring of the Cleric – Spare the Dying 2x/day
-
Ring of the Barbarian – Rage 1x/day
Each ring is a rare item. They are very thin, little more than a wire. Each gives access to a cantrip or slight buff. But when two rings from the set are both attuned to and worn on the same finger, they combine into one ring, free up an attunement slot and give an additional spell, power or buff. Each combination of two gives a different addition. Each combination of three gives a different addition and each combo of 4 gives a different addition. The combination of five makes this an artifact level item and gives yet a different addition.
There are several ways that these can be used. All at the Dms discretion. If the DM chooses to let the player have all of the combination spells possible as rings are combined, the PC would potentially get 30 free spells per day. Which in my opinion is insanely over powered. Example: The PC gets rings 1&2, gaining Prestidigitation and Eldritch blast, plus the combination spell of Witch Bolt. Then the PC gets ring 3.
The OP version would give the PC all of the 2 ring combos possible in the combination of 3 rings. Which would be Witch Bolt, Feather Fall and Detect Magic. Plus the 3 ring combo spell of Rope trick. That’s a lot of spells and there are only 3 rings. With all 5 rings it would be 30 spells.
The DM could choose to have the lower lever combinations fall off. So, in my above example the PC would get the cantrips and only the 2 lvl spell from the combo, which is Rope Trick. This would be far less powerful in the end, if the PC got all 5, for a maximum of 6 spells.
The middle road would be to allow the PC to keep one spell from each combination, giving a maximum of 9 spells.
Spells received from combining rings are usable once per day.
