Once word got out about the discovery a bunch of outsiders wanted it for themselves. The outsiders killed Yumi's father and chased her up the side of a volcano while she had the metal with her trying to not let them take it. They cornered her on the edge of the volcano and she fell in with the metal, but instead of dying she fused with the metal turning into a sword.
