Description
These Abyssal Dire Cockatrice have fed on abyssal touched creatures and/or live next to an open portal to the Nine Hells and/or The Abyss where the continual energy that corrupts the nearby land has also infect these creatures. Either way their normal appearance has been corrupted and defiled.
The leathery hide and wings of the Abyssal Dire Cockatrice is thicker and darker to add more protection as the purple black vessels that run underneath pulse with a dim orange glow. It's normal tough tendons and bones of its bird foot are split apart at the top to allow for more leg muscle to grow and more articulation of the feet. The thin flexible quills that run along the spine and crown are thicker to be spikes or horns at time. The tips of the bat like wings have hooks to allow them better ability to perch and cling to walls to climb a short distance.
What little feathers Abyssal Dire Cockatrice has left have grown longer and thicker changing to an iridescent colors that range from dark purples to bright blues/greens. These feathers have grown small barbs on the edges and are rubbed together to produce a sound (stridulation); the sound that is produced made sounds of low pitch whistle tone scream and bones rattles. These patches are located on the crown of its head and patches at the base of the neck and wings. The leathery comb and wattles on the cocktrice's face can be raise or lower with this display as it will increase its blood flow to make them glow dimly red and orange. It will often flair its comb and shake these patches of feather in attempt to scary off enemies.
The tail of the Abyssal Dire Cockatrice become thinner and longer almost splitting at the tip of the tail with barbs growing to make it look like a multi-tailed barbed whip. These barbs are hollow to allow for the paralyzing venom to inject upon contact. There are globular nodules where the tails begins to break allowing for multiple small poison glands to grow. It keeps its tail curled when it is frenzied to allow for fast whip attacks.
The beak of the Abyssal Dire Cockatrice is just as deadly with having more potent petrification effect. The beak is covered in small spikes as behind its crops are large thick bulbous nodules with its purple vessel pumping into it as the petrification glades have mutated and expanded. There are small silts in its beaks that allows the petrification oils coat the entire beak still making it dangerous long after death. The inside of the beak has grown backwards hooks to allow the creature to grab on to their food better and break it off.
Though the Abyssal Dire Cockatrice still have the ability to be omnivores still the undying hunger for flesh makes their preferred meals living creatures, so they lean towards carnivores diets. These cockatrices are more aggressive they tend to turn all nearby prey into stone before attempting to smash the stone with its legs to quickly swallow the pieces whole.
