Description
Pseudodragons are typically elusive and dwells in the quiet places of the world, making its home in the hollows of trees and small caves. However, these pseudodragons have become corrupted by a magical ritual to imbue hellfire within these creatures. Their normal good playful nature shifts to align more with evil creatures and more aggressive. They typically become servants of those that preform the magical ritual as long as they feed and treat them well. Another way is they have fed on abyssal touched creatures and/or live next to an open portal to the Nine Hells and/or The Abyss where the continual energy that corrupts the nearby land has also infect these creatures. Either way their normal appearance has been corrupted and defiled.
The Abyssal Pseudodragon still have their red-brown scales, horns, and a maw filled with sharp teeth, that allows for the resembles a tiny red dragon, though there are notable changes. The scales grow darker, longer, and thicker allowing the tips of the scales to curl up as the push against one another giving a almost spikey hide. The leathery wings are thicker and darker to add more protection as the purple black vessels that run underneath pulse with a dim orange glow. The tips of the wings have hooks to allow them better ability to perch and cling to walls to climb a short distance. The claws grow slightly longer as well as forms barbs that allows it to climb and cling better.
The Abyssal Pseudodragon often vocalizes animal noises. A rasping purr indicates pleasure, while a hiss means unpleasant surprise. A bird-like chirping represents desire, and a growl always means anger or discontent. Most of these noises are accompany by the internal red/orange glowing of blood vessel and internal glands just behind their jaw that matches the emotion. An easy example of this is when they growl, the fiery light to be seen at the back of their throats as their purplish black blood vessel grow bright orange.
Quiet and Aggressive. The Abyssal Pseudodragon have little interest in other creatures, but if there is a non-ally creature that passes by itself or its master it tends to harass the creature until it gets bored or called off. If it is attacked, it fights back using the poisonous stinger at the tip of its tail, one jab of which can put a creature into a catatonic state that can last for hours.
Draconic Familiars. Mages often seek out pseudodragons, whose agreeable disposition, telepathic ability, and resistance to magic make them superior familiars. Pseudodragons are selective when it comes to choosing companions, but they can sometimes be won over with gifts of food or treasure. When a pseudodragon finds an agreeable companion, it bonds with that person as long as it is treated fairly. A pseudodragon puts up with no ill treatment, and it abandons a manipulative or abusive companion without warning.
Language of Emotion. Pseudodragons can’t speak, but they communicate using a limited form of telepathy that allows them to share basic ideas such as hunger, curiosity, or affection. When it bonds with a companion, a pseudodragon can communicate what it sees and hears even over long distances.
