Description
Goblins are small, black-hearted humanoids that lair in despoiled dungeons and other dismal settings. Individually weak, they gather in large numbers to torment other creatures.

I tried to run one of these. My bard made one think it was his wife by charming it and rolling persuasion to make it beleive him.

I quote from the Monster's Manual:
If you want soldiers or thugs, hire hobgoblins. If you want someone clubbed to death in their sleep, hire bugbears. If you want mean, little fools, hire goblins.
End qote.
Both have roughly human intellect and are nocturnal. Tolkien's are a bit bigger and more deformed.
Wolves and worgs are the classic, but I like giant wolf spiders (inspired by Warhammer, found in caves and have darkvision). They can ride most medium or large creatures and given they might live in caves I like to include weirder mounts like giant spiders, badgers, frogs, lizards, even bats for flyers.
Because of pack tactics, they do have advantage in groups. I would LOVE to see a goblin lore book, that would be so cool. Also they are a playable race in MP: MotM
Oh, they don't have pack tactics. (As a DM, I silently grab a pen and add "Pack Tactics" to the first goblin stat block I find).
You should watch Runesmiths Goblin Tribal Tactics video. He played out a simulation in which 3 players fought a few goblins using a proper strategy, and the goblins decimated the lvl 5 rouge, lvl 5 ranger, and lvl 4 cleric. I'm gonna run these guys against an 11th level party to see what happens implementing his wise words. I wonder how that will go.
No the 5 is if the dice rolled a 3 (as typically done for damage and health its half the max roll) plus the 2
so 1d6 = 3 then add 2
5
or 1d6+2
Bro you forget in DnD you can make all Devils LG and Celestials CE?
goblins the most greediest wait thats a human its not green
I THINK SO!!! Love it
i think so
How do I usually play them? Cannon fodder
First of all... the day and night garbage. I don't have time for that. If there is some need for them to be active in the daylight, then they are. Same goes for night time.
2nd If they are in a group, then they are aggressive, if need be. By themselves, I run them like the little, sneaky, problematic, s&$ts that they are so good at.
If the party is advancing too quickly, just toss in a bunch of these chumps to manipulate and trap the path with petty and dangerous traps.
Baulders Gate!
beans
a lot weaker then I remember
95% of fantasy creatures are a metaphor for jews. Not much you can do about that, plus this is the goblin everybody thinks of when they think "goblin."

Thanks this helped me make a new monster for my book I’m making for my next campaign I’m hosting. The monster I’m making is a goblin mix with a bird.
