Actions
Multiattack. The dragon makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 17 (2d10 + 6) piercing damage plus 3 (1d6) fire damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d6 + 6) slashing damage.
Fire Breath (Recharge 5–6). The dragon exhales fire in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 56 (16d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
Description
The odor of sulfur and pumice surrounds a red dragon, whose swept-back horns and spinal frill define its silhouette. Its beaked snout vents smoke at all times, and its eyes dance with flame when it is angry.
I've made one of these a leader of an outlaw band in my own Weird Western setting, appropriately named Texas Red. He prefers his dragon-sized six-shooters but does keep a frighteningly large Gatling gun that he holds with his hands and cranks with his feet while flying for larger (or more annoying) threats. Sorta like a bicycle, if a bicycle reduced everything in range to a ground hamburger. He keeps bandoliers of ammo on his tail.
bruh no way they have our lord and savior matthew mercer doing the TTS for the name
anyone have any idea on what this thing would way?
Who would win: Young Red Dragon or Young Red Shadow Dragon?
I say Young Red Shadow Dragon because of the following reasons:
A. Fire immunity for the Young Red Shadow Dragon, meaning that the Young Red Dragons Fire breath is useless against it, so the Young Red Dragon has to rely on its claws and bite(minus the fire damage)
B. No mention of a Necrotic resistance or immunity, so the Young Red Shadow Dragon can use its Shadow Breath attack and it would do damage.
C. Breath effects. If multiple Humanoids are present, the Young Red Shadow Dragon can use its Shadow Breath and create Shadows, BTW it takes 6 successful Strength Drain attacks to kill a Young Red Dragon, so the Young Red Shadow Dragon won't have to do much.
D. Area. If this were in a cave or something like that, the Young Red Shadow Dragons Living Shadow trait allows it resistance to all damage except Force, Radiant, or psychic.
E. Higher save for the Breath Weapon. Young Red Shadow Dragon 18 > Young Red Dragon 17.
Let me know if this was a good analysis and comparison between these two creatures and if you want me to place anything else in the Analysis Platform.
so you are just making a adult red dragon and aging it down? Depends on the level of your party, if a young dragon (CR 10) would be tough for them then an adult dragon (CR 17) would be absolutely deadly.
big red fire lizard!
fire fire fire!
If you just say it's a young dragon but use the stat block of an adult the only problem would be deceiving your players expectations just remember to use the adult CR when scaling difficulty
Nat 20s are only auto sucess when attacking some tasks jsut aren't possible, rolling like a 27 wouldn't make an intelligent creature do your bidding without question, although it would make the dragon interested in any offers of treasure
The Dragon Creature Type
i feel like he should be a bit bigger than large at this point but I guess i can just do that myself lol
What about when he is an ancient?
d&d community, would it be realistic for 5 of these fellas to go in and firebomb a church?
thank you,
a potential dm
Can't wait to set this on my party of three level four players!
how much is the young red dragon in gold asking?
It really depends on the personality of the dragons. If they have a genuine reason for firebombing the church than yes. But they aren't just going to wake up and say 'hey, do you guys want to bomb a church'
Party of level 6 killed it in 3 turns
Also, what is the reason why five of these arrogant, evil Young Red Dragons (YRD) are hanging out together? It's not like they'd be the four vultures from The Jungle Book, asking "What do you wanna do today?" I would think, (IMHO), that they would be fighting for each other for the rights to the spoils and the fame.
Also, being vain would make it hard for more than two to get along. I am not saying that you couldn't do it, as you are the DM and maybe they are all trying to impress some Ancient Red Dragon (ARD) for a chance to be Head of A Clan or "Tiamat's Favorite"..
Just ideas and thoughts.

My two players, blue dragon wyrmling, and unicorn fought one, they got nuked by the fire, the unicorn saved them, and then they flew waaaaay into the sky and killed the dragon.
What is it's initiative advantage?
