Traits

Incorporeal. The night creeper can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 7 (2d6) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.

Night Creeper Weaknesses. The night creeper has the following flaws:

Broken Mind. If a creature attempts to read the night creeper's mind or communicate telepathically with it, it fails and both creatures take 7 (2d6) psychic damage.

Fear of Children. If the night creeper sees a child of 10 years or younger, it immediately uses its reaction, if available, to move as far away from the child as possible.

Actions

Multiattack. The night creeper makes two claw attacks.

Bleak Presence. Melee Spell Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 4) necrotic damage. If the target is sleeping, it must succeed on a DC 14 Charisma saving throw to awaken from taking this damage. A humanoid slain by this attack rises 24 hours later as a night creeper, unless the humanoid is restored to life or its body is destroyed.

Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) slashing damage.

Conjure Manifestation (1/Day). The night creeper conjures a spectral presence that appears within 5 feet of it. The manifestation is identical to the night creeper, except it does not possess this action. The manifestation acts on the night creeper's turn, and they share an action, bonus action, and reaction. The manifestation ends if it takes any damage.

Description

Night creepers are fearsome undead that attack long after the sun has set. These malicious creatures appear as small goblin-like monsters with twisted and wrinkled flesh, their lower halves fading away into nothingness, and long, curved claws extending from their hands. They can subtly drain the life force of sleeping creatures so that they don't awaken, and can conjure a spectral manifestation of themselves to attack their prey.

The first night creeper was created when a young boy fell through a portal to the Shadowfell while he was sleepwalking. The event caused a fragment of his soul to be left behind, still dreaming. In his time in the Shadowfell, the boy was twisted into a monstrous being that preyed on the sleeping. When the night creeper returned to the Material Plane, the fragment of its soul returned to it, allowing it to conjure a spectral manifestation of itself.

The undead abomination went on to slay many others, turning them into beings akin to itself. But each holds a fear of the thing that they once were.
