Description

A gretchk is the result of an archmage's curiosity from an eccentric cleric's request for a companion. These strange creatures look like an oversized squirrel colored like a chipmunk, bat-like wings, and a swirling color deep in their eyes. Mature gretchkes, known as a grand gretchk, can grow to be the size of large cattle.

Monstrous Rodents. Where a city can become infested with rats in around a year, a city would be infested in half the time if a flock, known as a gretchken, of gretchkes moved in. Gretchkes reproduce at an insane speed in comparison to normal high producing beasts.

Accidental Chaos. Due to the crazy nature of the experiment that created these creatures, they have inherent inclinations towards chaos. They will try to move into a settlement and cause problems for the populace that range from burning down side shops or replacing any current rodents that live there. When infantile they enjoy picking on creatures as small, or smaller, than they are. They also absolutely hate most creatures that tower over them, often attacking humanoids and other predators on sight. So naturally, if a gretchken attempts to move infest a location, they need to be taken care of quickly. They do, though, mellow out some as they mature.

Invasive Appetite. Gretchkes are insatiably hungry. They regular eat twice their bodyweight in food daily; regardless of if it has any nutritional value. Because of this, if trained a gretchken could possibly keep another creatures lair clean by eating anything from bugs to rodents to refuse. That is, if you can get past their stupidity. When a gretchk reaches maturity they might have grown to be the size of an Owlbear. Mature gretchkes will often find areas of high traffic  to build their nests so that they can more easily hunt as satisfy their hunger; be that a lush forest, or a neighboring settlement.
