Ethereal Sight. The Yuki Onna can see 60 feet into the Ethereal Plane when it is on the Material Plane, and vice versa.
Icy form. The Yuki Onna's body is made of ghostly ice energy. Any melee attack made against the Yuki Onna will result in 10 (2d10) ice damage for each hit or miss.
Seasonality. The Yuki Onna can not be destroyed. It is reborn every year from the first snow fall in the area where she died but only after the Fall Equinox or its appropriate substitute. It also dies once winter ends during the spring equinox or its appropriate substitute. She can only be permanently killed by a wish spell or re-awaking the spirit within.
Multiattack. The Yuki Onna can make three icicle attack or replace an icicle attack with a life drain attack.
Life Drain. Melee Spell Attack: +9 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 15 (4d6) cold damage and 3 (1d6) necrotic damage. The target must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or its hit point maximum is reduced by an amount equal to the damage taken. This reduction lasts until the creature finishes a long rest. The target dies if this effect reduces its hit point maximum to 0.
Icicle Attack. Ranged Spell Attack: +9 to hit, reach 30 ft., one creature. Hit: 18 (5d6) cold damage and 9 (2d6) piercing damage.
Ice Prison. The Yuki Onna grows a prison of ice from the grow in a 20 ft circle that she can see within 60 ft. Every creature in the circle must succeed a DC 18 Dexterity save or take 20 (5d8) ice damage and be restrained, or half as much damage and not be restrained.
Charm. The Yuki Onna targets one humanoid it can see within 30 feet of it. If the target can see the Yuki Onna, the target must succeed on a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw against this magic or be charmed by the Yuki Onna. The charmed target regards the Yuki Onna as a trusted friend to be heeded and protected. Although the target isn't under the Yuki Onna's control, it takes the Yuki Onna's requests or actions in the most favorable way it can, and it is a willing target for the Yuki Onna's ice prison.
Each time the Yuki Onna or the Yuki Onna's companions do anything harmful to the target, it can repeat the saving throw, ending the effect on itself on a success. Otherwise, the effect lasts 24 hours or until the Yuki Onna is destroyed, is on a different plane of existence than the target, or takes a bonus action to end the effect.
Etherealness. The Yuki Onna enters the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, or vice versa. It is visible on the Material Plane while it is in the Border Ethereal, and vice versa, yet it can't affect or be affected by anything on the other plane.
The Yuki Onna can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The Yuki Onna regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Charm. The Yuki Onna can use its charm attack at a creature.
Icicle Attack. The Yuki Onna can use make one icicle attack at a target in range.
Ice Prison (Cost 2 actions). The Yuki Onna grows a prison anywhere in range.
Lair and Lair Actions
The Yuki Onna lives only in the winter months when it snows. As such after the first snow fall reawakens her she regains her form and all her powers. They can live anywhere, but prefer seasonal locations, like the mountains, forests, or plains. However, a few have known to take over entire villages and cities.
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects:
- The Yuki Onna creates a blizzard that blinds everything in a 120ft radius, except the Yuki Onna. The storm lasts until initiative count 20 on the next round.
- A ghostly wail is heard that goes beyond the veil into the land of the dead. The Yuki Onna summons either 2 (1d4) ghost or 1 specter. (Once a day)
- Ice forms around the entire area making everything go slow. The Yuki Onna casts slow on every creature within 120ft. They must succeed a DC 18 Wisdom save. Once a creatures succeeds the saving throw, it is immune to this effect for 24 hours. Spells ends until initiative count 20 on the next round.
Regional Effects
The region containing a Yuki Onna’s lair is warped by the spirit’s magic.
- Once per day, the Yuki Onna can alter the weather in a 6-mile radius centered on its lair. The spirit doesn’t need to be outdoors; otherwise the effect is identical to the control weather spell.
- The temperature within a six mile radius of the Yuki Onna is always bellow freezing even when the sun is out.
- Within its lair, random illusory sounds and images can and will manifest, usually of the happiest memories of the Yuki Onna's life before becoming a spirit or the happiest memory of those who enter her lair.
If the Yuki Onna dies, changed weather reverts to normal, as described in the spell, and the other effects fade in 1d10 days. It reactivates when the Yuki Onna is reborn in the Winter.
