Actions

Smack! 2d4 +1 Bludgeoning Damage

Knowledge Blast: range 30 feet, make a intelligence saving throw or take 3d6 psychic damage. On a fail take half damage.

Healing Bookmark: One creature in 15 near the book heals 2d8. 1 charge, recharges on a long rest.

Reactions

Bookish Buff: causes all fiends in a when 10 foot cube to gain a +1 to AC.

Legendary Actions

Summon Fiend: the bookling rips a page out of itself, the page contorts and bloats until it reverses and implodes. The implosion causes a fiend that is equal to the books CR or lower to be summoned and bound to the book. Note that the book can only summon creatures from its home plane. An abyssal bookling can summon a demon or a demodand but not a yugoloth or a devil, and the opposite is true for an infernal bookling. Once the book dies the summoned creature is banished to the shore of the river Styx on its home plane. 1 charge, recharge 1 week.

Description

A vile creation of forbidden acts transcribed into tomes of lamb flesh, the Book of Vile Darkness is a many a cultists final goal. However making or better yet finding a copy is already dangerous enough. So what to do with the mass amount of blood and gore, but melt it in a book and bind a fiend to it. Vile Booklings are spiteful motes of fiends, and depending on what type of fiend is trapped inside can chatty or violent. Examples of Vile Booklings are:

A Imp that has been punished by being turned into a book, spiteful yet afraid that due to its binding it will not be able to resurrect in the hells.

A Yagnoloth that has willing turned into a checkbook and some times likes to take checks when it’s owner isn’t looking.

A Night Hag that has unwillingly turned into a mercantile book that shows the names of customers of the Hag before she was turned into a book.

A Demodand that has turned into a book of torture methods. It is happy like this.

A Alkilith that hates being trapped in its slimy arcane-topographic-transportation-text. (Its a book on portals.)

No matter the type, these books have only 3 ways to get rid of them.

Kill the entity that put them in, Bring them to the opposite plane of their birth plane and they will disintegrate, or return them to their home plane and cast Anti-Magic Field and the creature will be released.
A Vile Bookling can not be killed unless one of these conditions is met, if the Bookling reaches zero health it’s soul will possess a random book in a 15 mile radius. The bookling can chose which book specifically it resurrects into, normally a clerics prayer book, warlocks grimoire, or a wizards spell book. Hiding in wait until it killers look the other way, then the wizards book on the mating habits of displacer beasts rises up and charges.
