Multiattack. The dragon makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its claws.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage plus 1 fire damage. If the target is Small or smaller, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be grappled by the dragon. The target can redo the saving throw at the start of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.
Fire Breath (Recharge 5-6). The dracodrake exhales flame in a 25-foot cone. Each target in that area must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 27 (6d8) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
Description
Great black drake dragons are cliff, grassland, forest, and shoreline dwelling wyvern-like monsters that have hard black scales that give them their name. They are capable of blasting a cone of fire at prey and hostile creatures that get to close, though rarely, due to the fact that this breath weapon takes a bit longer than normal to recharge. This firepower raging inside of them also gives them a minor resistance to cold that allows them to thrive in chilly environments, such as of the coasts of arctic areas, though it seems that they can sort of "turn off" their semimagical heating system in order to live in hotter environments, such as nearby volcanic areas. Great black drakes are more intelligent than common wyverns, and many have been found hoarding treasure and doing highly complex tasks for personal reasons. This same intelligence can sometimes lead to helping humanoids that the drake dragon favor, though conflict is more common due to obvious fear of the creatures. These drake dragon's intelligence also allows them to learn at slightly less than the same rate as a human, especially around topics of magic, with draconic magic in particular being a favorite of more bold individuals. It is said that some great black drake dragons who learned how to speak New Draconic and use magic became lesser mages that used their magic to enhance their abilities, fight powerful humanoids and dragons, and even eventually completely transform into true dragons themselves. Great black drake dragons scales are often made into special scale armor that, when exposed to magical heat, allows the wearer to heat up its weapons and practically turn invisible in the shadows.
