The Nothic is a human that has submitted to the Rune of Abyss/Swallowed. They have an unspectacular body that has deteriorated with neglect, leaving them gaunt and dotted with open sores. From behind their head protrudes two large hands which cup around their forehead. When attacking, these hands unfurl to reveal a massive third eye embued with the Rune of Abyss/Swallowed. They use this third eye to learn the faults and flaws of those around them, which they will then spread to cause the subject of their ires ruin.

The Nothic hates itself above all others, and with a keen understanding of its own failures and misgivings, it seeks to find them in others. It then uses these inevitably found faults to justify the scorn it had already felt. The Rune it worships has sapped its strength and so in a twist of irony, the Nothic must rely on others to accomplish its vitriolic critique.

Actions

"It Knows" Action, Mid-range. The Nothic stares intently at one Player with its third eye. The Player must make a dc 14 charisma save. If the Player fails they take 1 point of stress and the Nothic can use "How to Kill..." for that Player.

"I Know What You Are..."  Action, Mid-range. The Nothic points and tells one Player a previously unknown fact about themselves. The Player must make a dc 14 charisma save. If they fail they take 3 points of stress damage. The Player also gains one backstory flaw. "You're a killer", "You're a traitor", "You're a coward", etc.

Bonus Actions

"Insidious Whispers" Conditional Bonus Action, Short-range. The Nothic whispers something to one ally, giving the ally a buff against the last targeted Player of "It Knows". The ally has +1 AC and +1 on ability saves on attacks from the targeted Player. The ally can also use its bonus action to force a dc 13 against the targeted Player's worst ability save. If the target fails, all attacks against the targeted Player from the ally have advantage for the round.

"Scramble Away" Bonus Action, Self. The Nothic moves 15ft. without provoking attacks of opportunity.

Description

Creators Note:

The idea behind this monster is to take a twist on the Nothic as more of a support role and not an actual fighter. This feels more interesting to me as a concept of, "a monster that reads your mind to fight you". The attacks are intended to be applicable and run at any level and still be impactful. The idea is you make an encounter for your players and this adds an extra cr boost to its difficulty.

Most importantly I want to know if the descriptions are understandable. I know I have some weird wording and decisions in there that delineates from the standard DnD description style and I want to know how you would suggest I change these. I'm curious as to what others think the more specific numbers should be for its attack ranges as well. They're written here pretty loosely on purpose to get feedback. I'm not super worried about the specific HP or AC because these are intended to be boosted or decreased based on the level of the player party. There's also stuff that's related to specific features of the games I run(ie stress and backstory flaws), feel free to ignore that.

Most importantly though, does this seem fun and interesting? They're intended to be real hatable but I'm worried this will come across as a hostile dm monster. That's not my intention. I want to make a monster that the characters hate but the players love.  Please tell me your thoughts.
