Petrifying Gaze. If a creature starts its turn within 30 feet of the chimera and the two of them can see each other, the chimera can force the creature to make a DC 12 Constitution saving throw if the chimera isn't incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature magically begins to turn to stone and is restrained. It must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a success, the effect ends. On a failure, the creature is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.

A creature that isn't surprised can avert its eyes to avoid the saving throw at the start of its turn. If it does so, it can't see the chimera until the start of its next turn, when it can avert its eyes again.

If it looks at the chimera in the meantime, it must immediately make the save. If the basilisk sees its reflection within 30 feet of it in bright light, it mistakes itself for a rival and targets itself with its gaze.

Avoidance. If the chimera is subjected to an effect that allows it to make a saving throw to take only half damage, it instead takes no damage if it succeeds on the saving throw, and only half damage if it fails.

Displacement. The chimera projects a magical illusion that makes it appear to be standing near its actual location, causing attack rolls against it to have disadvantage. If it is hit by an attack, this trait is disrupted until the end of its next turn. This trait is also disrupted while the chimera is incapacitated or has a speed of 0.

Actions

Multiattack. The chimera makes three attacks: one with its bite, one with its tentacles, and one with its claws. When its Psychic Crush is available, it can use the Psychic Crush in place of its bite.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) piercing damage.

Tentacles. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: (1d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 3 (1d6) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) slashing damage.

Psychic Crush (Recharge 5–6). The chimera targets one creature it can see within 30 feet of it. The target must succeed on a DC 11 Wisdom saving throw or take 17 (5d6) psychic damage and be stunned for 1 minute. The stunned target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Description

A jungle chimera is a vile combination of basilisk, displacer beast and su-monster, and features the heads of all three of those creatures. It likes to stun creatures and then petrify them, devouring the stone creature.
