Would have appreciated some armor proficiencies, unless that is explained somewhere else.
Yeah; doesn't look like barding is an item anymore; maybe they simplified it into the statblock itself, or it's in the DMG/Monster Manual?
Either way, I hope that they make mounts proficient in armor.
barding is in the full players handbook 2024,
If you or the DM uses the optional sidekick rule from Tasha's you can give your horse the warrior class and they will get proficiency in all armors.

No armor? The art wears armor.
According to the PHB, barding is a thing, so I'm assuming that a warhorse can wear it
PHB 2024 says they have prof in Wisdom Saves.
