Description

The Jade Emperor, also known as Yu Huang (玉皇), is one of the most important deities in Chinese mythology and Taoism. He is regarded as the ruler of heaven and all realms of existence, including the mortal world and the underworld. The Jade Emperor is often seen as the supreme god overseeing other gods, spirits, and immortals.

In myth, Yu Huang was originally a mortal who, after countless virtuous acts and spiritual cultivation, ascended to divinity. His role involves maintaining cosmic order, balancing yin and yang, and administering justice. He is often depicted as a benevolent and wise figure who governs the heavens with fairness, though he can be strict and authoritative when necessary.

The Jade Emperor is celebrated during the Chinese New Year, particularly on the 9th day of the first lunar month, which is considered his birthday.
