Adamantine Construct. Voidrender's body is made of pure adamantine, making it immune to critical hits. Additionally, Voidrender cannot squeeze through spaces narrower than 3 feet wide.
Overheat. If Voidrender takes 20 or more fire damage from a single attack or from the Heat Metal spell, its adamantine body overheats. Voidrender’s speed is reduced to 0 until the end of its next turn. During this time, Voidrender cannot take reactions and becomes vulnerable to bludgeoning and force damage.
Corrupted Soul. Voidrender's soul is trapped within the corrupted crystal embedded in its body. It can only be destroyed in the Underdark of the Shadowfell, the echo of the place it was created. If Voidrender is reduced to 0 hit points, its body dissolves, leaving behind only its heart—a corrupted, powerful crystal. Voidrender can be affected by Banishment, as its soul originates from the Material Plane.
Spider climb. The Voidrender can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Magic Weapons. The Voidrenders weapon attacks are magical.
Multiattack. Voidrender makes four voidcarve attacks with its arms and one Voidfang bite attack.
Voidcarve. Melee Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 10 ft., 1 target. Hit: 12 (1d6 + 8) [Piercing] + 12 (1d6 + 8) [Psychic ] damage.
Voidfang. MeleeWeapon Attack: +9 to hit, range 5 ft., 1 target. Hit: 38 (6d4 + 20) [Piercing] + 12 (1d6 + 8) [Psychic ] damage.
Terrifying Screech (Recharge 5-6). Voidrender emits a horrifying screech. Each creature within 60 feet of Voidrender that can hear it must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. While frightened in this way, if Voidrender is within the creature’s line of sight, the creature is stunned. A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the stunned effect on a success.
Smell of Fear. The Voidrender knows the exact location of every creature that is under the fear condition.
Voidfang Attack (Costs 1 Action). The Voidrender makes a Voidfang attack.
Stalk (Costs 1 Action): Voidrender moves up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks.
Lurking Terror (Costs 2 Actions): Voidrender targets one frightened creature it can see within 60 feet. The target takes 4d8 psychic damage and is paralyzed for 1 minute. The creature can repeat an DC18 Wisdom saving throw at the end of each of its turns to end both, the frightened and the paralyzed condition.
Description
Voidrender is a towering construct of pure adamantine, its form twisted and corrupted by the dark energies of the Shadowfell. Once a marvel of engineering, crafted by Deepgnomes and Duergar for unknown purposes, it now roams the realms as a monstrous abomination. Its massive body is lined with jagged, blade-like arms forged from the hardest metal, and a menacing maw capable of crushing anything in its path. The once-shining adamantine has been tainted by shadows, and its movements are accompanied by the unsettling grind of metal against stone.
Driven by a soul stolen from the Material Plane, Voidrender is a relentless hunter, seeking something unknown with murderous intent. Its very presence brings terror, as the sound of its mechanical screech can cause paralysis in even the bravest of warriors. Voidrender is powered by a dark, corrupted crystal embedded deep within its chest, the source of its unnatural life. This crystal holds immense power and is sought after by many for its potential, but to obtain it, Voidrender must be destroyed—a feat only possible within the depths of the Shadowfell’s Underdark.
Voidrender’s nature as an unstoppable juggernaut, immune to almost all forms of attack, makes it a terror on the battlefield. It’s a creature bound to darkness and death, and its corrupted soul longs for release from its twisted form. Only those brave enough to confront it in its lair have any hope of ending its reign of terror.
This statblock represents Voidrender as it appears in its Lair in the Shadow Fell. However, Voidrender becomes less powerful in its haunting place on the material plane. On the material plane, Voidrender gains terrifying new abilities, its power protect it from any kind of damage, swapping it's offense capabilities with an unyielding defence.
Lair and Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Voidrender can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects; Voidrender can't use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- Whispers in the Dark: A haunting cacophony of whispers fills the lair, affecting all creatures of Voidrenders' choice within 120 feet. Each creature must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to distinguish friend from foe, attacking the nearest creature.
- Dark Cloud: A thick cloud descends in a 20-foot radius, obscuring vision and causing all other creatures in the area to take 4d6 psycic damage. The cloud last for 1d4+1 turns.
- Stalking Shadows: The shadows stretch and shift, targeting a creature of Voidrenders' choice within 60 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become marked by the shadows for 1 minute. While marked, the creature is unable to hide, and Voidrender has advantage on attack rolls against them. Additionally, the marked creature feels an overwhelming sense of being watched, imposing disadvantage on all ability checks while within Voidrenders' lair. If the target is already frightened, they automatically fail the saving throw, and Voidrender can teleport to within 10 feet of them as a bonus action on his next turn.
