Amorphous. The pudding can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch without expending extra movement to do so.
Corrosive Form. A creature that hits the pudding with a melee attack roll takes 4 (1d8) Acid damage. Nonmagical ammunition is destroyed immediately after hitting the pudding and dealing any damage. Any nonmagical weapon takes a cumulative −1 penalty to attack rolls immediately after dealing damage to the pudding and coming into contact with it. The weapon is destroyed if the penalty reaches −5. The penalty can be removed by casting the Mending spell on the weapon.
In 1 minute, the pudding can eat through 2 feet of nonmagical wood or metal.
Spider Climb. The pudding can climb difficult surfaces, including along ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Dissolving Pseudopod. Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 10 ft. Hit: 17 (4d6 + 3) Acid damage. Nonmagical armor worn by the target takes a −1 penalty to the AC it offers. The armor is destroyed if the penalty reduces its AC to 10. The penalty can be removed by casting the Mending spell on the armor.
Split. Trigger: While the pudding is Large or Medium and has 10+ Hit Points, it becomes Bloodied or is subjected to Lightning or Slashing damage. Response: The pudding splits into two new Black Puddings. Each new pudding is one size smaller than the original pudding and acts on its Initiative. The original pudding’s Hit Points are divided evenly between the new puddings (round down).

Posted Apr 12, 2025the artwork is very nice but i prefer the old one.
for stats, the pudding lost 17 HP average and finally, it cant be grappled or restrained. (at least the statblocks says it now.)
got 5 ft. of range for his attack. lost 1 acid damage and his 6 bludgeoning on average. and it splits now when its below half hp in addition to slashing or lightning.
overall it got way weaker but thats probably fine.

Posted Aug 12, 2025Shields are a type of armor anyway the near guaranteed split when bloodied might be the reason for the damage being reduced. I also want to say when it uses it reaction to split into two new creatures I am pretty sure both start with their reactions back due to being new creatures. I think the fact it basically gets a multi attack at half health near guaranteed that weakens armor is the reason for the damage nerf.
That said what is the maximum hit points of the black puddings it splits into I assume logically it is the health they get when the original splits, but that's not confirmed. So technically we could reasonably assume it is the normal maximum hit points of a black pudding which means they are bloodied and can split again.

Posted Aug 24, 2025I noticed that too, I assume it has to be the HP the original had when the split triggered, not the max amount. It doesn't make sense that it would heal or regenerate after being split.

Posted Sep 11, 2025So: Split.
This literally means that Black Puddings are constantly splitting. Horrible wording.
