Posted May 14, 2025What's worse than one Copperhead? I know...A BLOODY NEST OF THEM!
Bite attack is reworked. Used to deal 7(2d6) piercing damage or 3(1d6) if the swarm was bloodied. Now, it deals 8(1d8+4) or 6(1d4+4) if the swarm is bloodied. Also used to have a DC 10 Con save against 14(4d6) poison. Now, the 10(3d6) poison is automatic. No other changes.
Just be grateful they didn't add a Swarm of Dalamadurs. No one would survive that monstrosity.
Fusion time! Only one option; raise the automatic 10(3d6) poison to 14(4d6) poison of the old one.

Posted Jan 20, 2026Interesting ... a successful bite attack adds 10 (3d6) poison damage, but not the poisoned condition.

Posted Jun 7, 2026I don't know, I think they should have made it CR 1, lower its dex, HP and AC and have the damage scale downward much more when bloodied.
How is a mass of snakes going to dodge a sword or weather a fireball, just from good reflexes? It arguably doesn't even make sense for it to have BPS resistance (except Piercing) because you could kill a few with one strike, just as well as a firebolt or magic missiles could.
Yet, if you don't use flanking rules, it would take about 58 attacks on average for commoners with clubs to kill this.
I don't know. I'm nitpicking, but I still think this isn't the best designed monster in the bunch.
Burning hands and ice knife aren't even particularly effective because it's a single statblock and its dex saves are decent.
And then, if you've nerfed it like I would but you still want to make them scary, just use a few of them, or make a stronger version of something besides normal snakes.
