Planar Graft

Each Echo-Warden contains a fragment of one of nine planes conquered or corrupted by the Empire’s Ninefold Resonance Project. The graft determines the Warden’s damage type, appearance, and abilities, and grants resistance to that damage type.

Choose or roll one of the following:

• Elemental Water (Cold): Armor leaks thin mist, vents rimed with frost. The Warden’s steps glaze the ground with ice.
• Elemental Earth (Bludgeoning): Armor vibrates with a low rumble, leaving fractures where it walks.
• Elemental Air (Lightning): Sparks and gusts dance around its body; eyes flash with white-blue current.
• Mechanus (Force): Golden geometric runes pulse across its armor. Movements are unnaturally precise, each step echoing like clockwork.
• Nine Hells (Fire): Armor is cracked by molten light; heat and brimstone radiate with every strike.
• Acheron (Thunder): Crimson waves pulse from its blows; its footsteps echo like distant artillery.

The graft’s energy determines the type of damage dealt by the Warden’s attacks and abilities, and the type to which it is resistant.

Planar Resilience

The Echo-Warden cannot be banished or forcibly teleported. When it would take damage of its own graft’s type, it instead regains 5 hit points.

Unstable Core

When reduced to 0 HP, roll a d6. On a 3–6, its planar core detonates in a 20-ft radius, dealing 18 (4d8) damage of its graft’s type (DC 15 Dex save for half).

 

Actions

Multiattack.
The Echo-Warden makes two Resonant Halberd attacks.

Resonant Halberd. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target.
Hit: 11 (2d6 + 3) slashing damage plus 7 (2d6) damage of its graft’s type.

Overload Pulse (Recharge 5–6).
Planar energy erupts outward. Each creature of the Warden’s choice within 15 ft. must make a DC 15 Con save, taking 22 (4d10) damage of its graft’s type on a fail, or half on a success. The Warden takes 5 (1d10) self-damage.

Planar Step (2/day).
As a bonus action, the Warden teleports up to 30 ft. to an unoccupied space it can see.
Creatures within 5 ft. of its departure or arrival point take 5 (1d10) damage of its graft’s type.


Bonus Actions

Overclock (1/day).
The Warden floods its containment sigils with power, gaining advantage on attack rolls and saving throws until the end of its next turn, then taking 10 (3d6) damage.

Description

The Virin Echo-Wardens are the crowning product of the Empire’s Ninefold Resonance Project — a secret military initiative to weaponize the power of the broken Echo-Seals.
Through the grafting of planar fragments into living soldiers, Imperial artificers sought to create warriors who could survive the madness and entropy of planar instability.
