Traits

Unyielding Sight. The many eyes of the Viscerad mean that attempts to blind it are harder than usual. The Viscerad has advantage on any roll to resist an effect that blinds and/or otherwise impairs it's vision.

Keen Sight. The Viscerad has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight.

Legendary Resistance (3/Day). If the Viscerad fails a saving throw, it can choose to succeed instead.

Actions

Multiattack. The Viscerad makes two attacks with it's stingers.

Stinger. Melee Weapon Attack: +10 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) piercing damage plus 5 (1d10) necrotic damage.

Flesh Puppet Spellcasting. The Viscerad casts a spell stored in one of it's Flesh Puppets.

Otherworldly Screech. The Viscerad eminates a piercing screeching sound that shakes nearby creatures to their very core. Each creature within 50 ft of the Viscerad who can hear it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or fall unconscious for 1 minute. An affected creature wakes if it takes damage, or if another creature spends an action to shake it awake. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, it is immune the Viscerad's Otherworldly Screech for the next 24 hours.

Reactions

Replicate Spell. When the Viscerad or a creature it can see within 120 ft is subjected to the effect of a spell, it can use it's reaction to capture some of the magic of the spell.

One of the Viscerad's Flesh Puppets changes appearance to match the skin tone and facial features of caster of the spell. If said caster utilizes a spellcasting focus, the puppet grows an extra limb resembling the focus in appearance and texture. When the reaction is taken, or as an action on it's turn, the Viscerad can cast the spell stored within the puppet on any valid target. When a spell is cast in this way, it is always cast at the lowest level possible for the spell.

The amount of times the spell stored in said puppet can be cast is dependent on the level of the spell:

  • Cantrip / Level 1: 4 times
  • Levels 2 - 5: 3 times
  • Level 6 / 7: 2 times
  • Level 8 / 9: 1 time

The Spellcasting Attack Bonus and Spell DC for the spell are equal to that of the creature the puppet is replicating.

Once the spell within a puppet has been used the specifed number of times, the puppet loses it's current features and returns to it's white, featureless appearance. This reaction can only be used if there are any remaining puppets that do not yet have a spell stored within.

Legendary Actions

The Viscerad can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The Viscerad regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Detect. The Viscerad makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

Stinger Attack. The Viscerad makes a stinger attack.

Cast Spell (Costs 2 actions). The Viscerad casts a spell stored within one of it's Flesh Puppets.

Description

The Viscerad is a Huge, Light-grey, roughy egg-shaped creature, it's main body being about 10 feet in width and 15 feet in height. It possesses anywhere from thirty to fifty eyes on the entirety of it's body, all of which possess white pupils that darken into jet black Sclera. Said eyes are oriented sideways and constantly shift their view whenever the Viscerad is conscious. Six spindly, long, spider-like legs extend from near the bottom of it's form, their middle joint ascending to about half the Viscerad's height. The Viscerad will usually make it's home underground or in other areas of little to no light.

The Viscerad's 'front' contains a vertical opening that opens whenever the Viscerad feels threatened or is hunting it's prey. Out of this opening extend two fleshy, curved, segmented limbs that end in pointed stingers. In addition to these stingers, three black cords poke out of this opening. Each cord ends in a white appendage that appears to resemble the upper half of a humanoid, with a torso, two arms and a head, except pale white and featureless.

These 'Flesh Puppets' initially appear inert, with their arms dangling by their side. If a spell is cast within the Viscerad's presence, however, these puppets can shift and change to resemble the caster.
