Mephit Containment Staff. The Zil Elementalist wields a staff with a bound Mephit contained by runes along its surface. The element of the Mephit determines the damage type of the elementalist's staff attacks. (These Mephits need not be restricted to those presented in the Monster Manual or other sources. Any damage type other than bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing is possible.)
Discharge. As an action, the Zil Elementalist can choose to break its Mephit Containment Staff. If it does so, it and every creature and object within 20 feet of it must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take 4d10 damage of its Mephit's elemental type, and is stunned until the end of its next turn. A creature that succeeds on the save takes half as much damage and is not stunned. After using Discharge, the elementalist's Mephit Containment staff is broken and cannot be used to attack.
Mage Armor. The Zil Elementalist can cast Mage Armor once per day, and usually is assumed to do so before combat begins.
Multiattack. The archer makes two attacks with its staff. These attacks can each be ranged or melee. Or, the elementalist can make two melee or ranged attacks with its dagger.
Mephit Containment Staff. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 120/240, one target. Hit: 9 (1d10 + 4) damage of this elementalist's Mephit type.
Dagger. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d4 + 2) piercing damage.
Shield. Once per day, the Zil Elementalist can cast the Shield spell as a reaction.
Description
The gnomes of Zilargo are masters of binding magics, especially the bindings of elementals. During the Last War, they supplied their Brelish allies with elemental-powered weapons, including siege weapons consisting of bound earth elementals, artillery which used fire elementals to launch flaming projectiles, and more. Among their accomplishments are the Mephit Containment Staves, which are infantry-scale weapons which use a small bound mephit to provide significant firepower.
Zil Elementalists are gnomes trained in the use of these weapons. They are the Zil/Brelish alliance's response to Thrane templars or Karrnathi undead. If all else fails, a Zil elementalist can detonate her staff, heavily damaging both herself and everyone around her.
